THINGS WE LOVE

A community functions best when we are connected to each other. We don’t just exist for ourselves, but rather we enrich the story of others by the faith and values we embody, allowing their stories to also enrich and shape us.

Here are some things we love. The people behind them either share commons values with us or have helped enabled us to embody what we believe, either within our immediate Edge community or as individuals living our lives within the broader communities of whānau, mahi and tākarokaro.

Annie Wilson

In 2018 Annie has been pioneering a new endeavour called the Aroha Project. Working alongside her local church in Cambodia called Followers of Jesus, she is committed to underprivileged youth, the provincial poor and other community needs.

The Aroha Project is primarily a leadership home where tertiary aged students that are underprivileged; particularly orphans, board with Annie for minimal financial contribution. They are supported and empowered within the framework of the local church through a leadership/scholarship programme, where they learn life skills, grow and develop in a safe environment, whilst they attend their chosen university degree courses.

There are many young adults in the community that are unable to continue tertiary education because of their financial situation so with our support and encouragement, Annie can help provide part or full scholarships and supported living costs for at least two to four students each year with expansion as funds permit.

As a church community we continue to support Annie financially and prayerfully.

Love INdia

A number of years ago, small group of women from Edge went to India to serve with a group of churches that work out of a Trust called ‘Love India’. Their time was spent visiting and working in Slum Schools, Homes for Girls in Delhi and also with a family who lead a church in the Himalayan region of Almora.

This initial trip birthed an ongoing relationship that continues by supporting Joseph and Sarah whose work is in Almora, a semi-rural village at the foothills of the Himalayan belt. Joseph & Sarah and their children Shirly & Jonathan have lived in this region for around 20 years, having planted the church they lead along with building their church facility including plans for a Bible School and home for girls. They have great love for this community, yet it is a struggle to make ends meet in this poor village and therefore value the support we offer. Our desire is to support them as a family first, so that they are able to live and serve well in their region.

If you would like to gift to them financially, label it ‘Love India’ and it will be sent directly to them.

Te Rautini Puoro (Music)

Worship music is a huge love of ours. Friends within this church community at Kirikiriroa (Hamilton) have pioneered worship music that is an honest expression of the indigeneity of Aotearoa.

There songs speak deeply to us as they regularly form part of our music set each Sunday.

You can enjoy their offering via spotify.

Spiritual direction / SupeRvision

Spiritual Direction and Supervision are two different ways of accompanying people that offer support and encouragement in life and work.

Linda Burson Swift is one of the founders of Edge and remains closely associated with our community life.

We would highly recommend her services in these areas of support and care.

More information about the services themselves and what Linda offers can be found on her website, along with relevant contact details.

Alabaster Co

The bible is a beautiful and sacred written text for us. What we really appreciate about Alabaster Co is that they have taken the time and care to give this text the dignity it deserves by printing it in a most beautiful and creatively engaging way.

They also provide devotionals and thoughtful commentary on how creativity and faith interlace within our daily lives.

You might grow to love their mahi as we have. Check them out.

Recreate nz

We have enjoyed a connection with this organisation for over 10 years now. They provide life changing experiences for young people with disabilities across the entire motu. These experiences provide adventure, learning, social engagement and so many awesome memories for their clients and families.

We love their heart, energy and how they embody aroha…and they make some delicious jams, sauces and pickles which they manage from orchard to jar. Check out their Our Harvest range.
