Formation- Jesus: The Revolutionary Mystic

Henri Nouwen says that “ Jesus was a revolutionary who did not become an extremist since he did not offer an ideology but Himself. He was also a mystic, who did not use his intimate relationship with God to avoid the social evils of his time, but shocked his milieu to the point of being executed as a rebel.” So what does it mean to follow in his footsteps? How does the mystical life relate to the revolutionary life, and vice versa?

Community Prayers

We feel this is a season to be a tad more deliberate as a community in our conversations together with God. We will be building on the foundations of SEED and our recent series on Prayer at Formation by curating a space that reflects the spirit of kotahitanga, a corporate coupling with God in whom we live and have our being.

It'll be a regular feature through to the end of the year, as we look to pack up and move out of George Street and into a new home that will house a new era for us.

7-8pm.

You are welcome come with your dinner, straight from work, from 6pm.

Formation: Prayer, What Is It Good For?

Formation: A fortnightly theological discussion designed to shape our understanding of God, ourselves and the world we call home.

This session is the first of three centred around Prayer.

For some of us, prayer can be a complicated and confusing thing. For others, a rich resource for our spirituality. So what is prayer, and what does it mean for us to engage in prayer in meaningful and authentic ways?

Clothing Swap

A clothing swap is a cheap, fun and ethical way to spruce up your wardrobe. You can take as many clothes as you have brought in, feeling happy to know that the item you are 'over' is now being re-loved.

So, invite your friends and make a night of it. The more people there, the bigger the variety to choose from.

Formation: So Now What?

The Bible: Scripture and our transformation.

Our engagement with the Bible is ultimately about our transformation. Whether we read it together, read it alone, study it, or experience it, the aim is always to be transformed into new kinds of people. So what does this actually look like?

Formation: So Now What?

The Bible: How Jesus changes the way we read scripture.

To be a Christian is to make the claim that Jesus is the centre of our faith. And this means that Jesus is also the centre of how we read the bible - the whole story is reshaped by how we understand Jesus to be the word made flesh.

Formation: So Now What?

The Bible: How myths can be true.

The bible is full of texts that read like ancient mythology; a global flood, talking snakes, rebellious donkeys, and more. But how can we read these stories meaningfully in the modern world, and do they contain truth that we still need to hear?

Going Local

Spending time with Edge locals.

Community is an increasingly complex concept to grasp. We live with our family, friends, flat mates or even strangers, but we function more and more as independent units. The call to independence can be valid, however real success, love and change has always been found in the company of friends, foes and strangers on the hard worn path.

Therefore as we settle into the idea of moving out of 44 George we thought it would be great to start meeting up in homes with a few other locals. We have a number of people putting out their welcome mats to have you over for a spot of chit chat and kai. So if you have been around for ages or are just finding your feet at Edge, check out the homes below nearest you and touch base for the low down.

Click here for the details of who, where and how.
