Community Prayers

We feel this is a season to be a tad more deliberate as a community in our conversations together with God. We will be building on the foundations of SEED and our recent series on Prayer at Formation by curating a space that reflects the spirit of kotahitanga, a corporate coupling with God in whom we live and have our being.

It'll be a regular feature through to the end of the year, as we look to pack up and move out of George Street and into a new home that will house a new era for us.

7-8pm.

You are welcome come with your dinner, straight from work, from 6pm.

On the night you'll hear some sweet sounds by these artists:

ONLY BROTHERS

An energetic R&B soul-pop band from the best parts of Auckland. Jamming together for the last 8 years. Soul and Hip Hop influences fuse to become the musical equivalent of that warm feeling you get when you laugh at a weird infomercial. 9 out of 10 listeners would recommend not reading too much into the lyrics. Follow this wisdom and the songs are actually known to be reasonably pleasant .

Check them out here: https://onlybrothers.bandcamp.com/releases

HONEYBEE

Alternative Pop/Indie band with Hip Hop influences, Honeybee is Auckland's fastest rising band. Releasing their first single Fired Up to great reception, they have released more music and are currently working on their debut EP.

Check them here:

MARIANNE WREN

Marianne's music is a trip through jazz, soul, and the indefinable. She's fluent in piano and guitar and spent years playing violin for the Auckland Youth Orchestra. Her Soundcloud page shows off her many influences.

Ka rongo te pō, ka rongo te ao: Mana Wahine

Nau mai, haere mai!

In our second Ka rongo te pō, Ka rongo te ao gathering we will be exploring the topic of Mana Wahine. All are welcome, and it is a koha entry.

What is a Māori understanding of being wahine? How does that play out in our country? How does that differ from western expressions of feminism? Join us for a night of conversation as we explore the topic of Mana Wahine through the life and experiences of our guest speakers. Hosted by Te Waka McLeod, she will be joined by Michele Wilson (Director at iameva.co) and health researcher Marnie Reinfelds.

Each contributor will be sharing about their life and work, and then we will have space for Q&A’s with them.

Speaker backgrounds:

Marnie Reinfelds (Ngāti Mutunga/Te Atiawa/Taranaki/Ngāti Toa Rangatira) - A Māori health researcher and staunch advocate of Māori cultural practices, she is currently working towards her Ph.D. on the intersection between historical trauma and birth, exploring birth as a site of resistance and healing for Māori women and whānau at Auckland University.

Michele Wilson - Director of I am Eva (iameva.co), full bio still to come!

Te Waka McLeod - Kei a Ruapehu te mana, kei a Taranaki te tapu āku mounga whakahii, āku puna waiora. Te Waka effortlessly weaves Te Ao Māori into everything she does, and has spent her life being called into leadership contexts to faithfully accomplish this work. This has included positions within Sport Taranaki, her local iwi of Ngāti Mutunga, the Link NZ network, Aspiring Leaders Forum, Parenting Place and most recently Te Waka joined Oati as a Pouwhiringa.

Formation- Jesus: The Revolutionary Mystic

Henri Nouwen says that “ Jesus was a revolutionary who did not become an extremist since he did not offer an ideology but Himself. He was also a mystic, who did not use his intimate relationship with God to avoid the social evils of his time, but shocked his milieu to the point of being executed as a rebel.” So what does it mean to follow in his footsteps? How does the mystical life relate to the revolutionary life, and vice versa?
