Reinventing Eve.

Friday, November 5th, 2010

“Get thee to a nunnery!”
…or if that doesn’t float your boat…
Get thee to Reinventing Eve instead

We’re not your usual saints, not exactly nuns, but we’re hungry for spiritual things worked out in our normal daily lives. Join us for a good God talk, some prayer and something sweet to eat.

We’ll kick things off at 7:45pm in the front lounge at Edge Kingsland, 44 George St.

See you there!
-Erin, Idoya & Jo

PS In case you haven’t figured it out this is a women thing – so leave the lads at home.
PSS Reinventing Eve is on the first Friday of every month so put it in your calendars

People Groups – Local.

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Hi all,

Just to say, the small group called ‘Local’ meets at Galbraiths Alehouse (at the top of Mt Eden Rd) 7.30pm every home group Wednesday. We try and mix it up with hang out times, personal sharing times, Bible studies, and the occasional ale. We also put an emphasis on mission and witness.

At the moment, there are about half a dozen of us, and ages range from early twenties to early thirties. Everyone is welcome! Any queries, please contact us – Blair Franklin (027)413-1137. ”

Thanks Edge

Growing Together… Let’s Do It!

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Autumn is the perfect time to start a vege garden or to plant out some crops so you can enjoy winter roast vege, soups, stews or even winter salads. I’m planning to put in some lemongrass, lettuces, cavelo nero (tuscan kale) and Italian sprouting broccoli this weekend. Then perhaps some purple carrots for extra randomness and colour. Why not grow stuff you can’t buy in the supermarket I say?! Winter vege may not be as sexy as the heirloom tomatoes and abundant bounty of summer, but there is still much to play with now.

As things get colder, growth inevitably slows down. Above you can see that Linda got creative with some old windows to give her wee seedlings some extra protection. Windows in the garden – what the? Well, it just so happens you will be able to check out her garden and DIY efforts for yourself.

On Saturday 8th May we are having a get-together at the Burson’s for morning tea, and a nosey at Linda’s garden. Whether you just have a dying pot plant, or are completely self-sufficient, we would love you to come along! Bring something to share for morning tea, along with some gardening tips or questions. So Ladies and Gents, hope to see you out in the glorious West at 10.30am! If its raining we will postpone until the same time on May 15th. Contact the office if you need the address, or just ask someone on Sunday who looks gardeny (yes I did just make up a new word).

Grow your own, together

Monday, March 29th, 2010

This is part of my vege garden, taken a month ago. Unfortunately it doesn’t look this good at the moment, but let’s just pretend it does for the sake of this post. At this point you may be wondering why my vege garden gets special mention on the Edge Kingsland blog. Well, here are a few profound spiritual reasons why I love gardening and think you should too:

When I garden, I’m reminded of God as Creator. Of his power, but also his gentle care. I feel like I’m partnering with him, co-creating and nurturing his world.

I find I’m more in touch with the seasons, the natural flow of life. It helps me recognise and accept the seasons in my own life.

Henri Nouwen writes that “the whole of nature is a sacrament pointing to a reality far beyond itself.” A sacrament is something sacred that reveals God’s grace to us. Familiar sacraments to us are the Eucharist and baptism. The idea of creation as sacrament is that we can witness something of God in what he has made.

Spiritual musings aside…

I love the process of learning to grow my own food. I love getting my hands dirty and seeing what I can create and produce (and eat). It’s fun. What’s even better is getting around other people who are just as nerdy about gardening as me and sharing ideas (and food).

Every now and then, those of us who are interested in gardening are planning to meet at someone’s house for a cuppa, a chat, and to have a nosey at their garden. Maybe even go on some other field trips. Would you be keen for this? Perhaps you are an expert already – we need your wisdom! Perhaps you are a total beginner – we can help you! So, come and talk to me sometime.
