Matthew 6

Matthew 6
After he calls us to perfection – which is a call to love – Jesus makes this statement: “When you practice your ‘acts of righteousness…’” He then leads into instructing us on giving to the poor, prayer, fasting and being incredibly generous with our money and possessions.
Now remember our context is righteousness: Jesus is saying that righteousness has everything to do with the way we treat one another. See here. What Jesus tells us is that the practice of prayer and fasting, centred within outlandish generosity, triggers the Kingdom to come! The practice of privately hiding in prayer, fasting and generosity, manifests publicly the Kingdom of Heaven: your heavenly Father – our Great Reward – alive in you, and through you.
So don’t worry about stuff, your heavenly Father knows what you need. But you: be seeking the Kingdom of Heaven, the God-life in the dome-of-your-heart.
And you get the stuff anyway.
Bargain if ever I’ve seen one.
