What’s in a name?

What’s in a name? Well my name, Michael, means something like this:
From the Hebrew name מִיכָאֵל (Mikha’el) meaning “who is like God?”. This is a rhetorical question, implying no person is like God.

So that’s fairly impressive. Now, let’s see – what about Gregory?
English form of Latin Gregorius, which was from the late Greek name Γρηγοριος (Gregorios), derived from γρηγορος (gregoros) meaning “watchful, alert”.

Not bad. And what about yours? Have a look here.

This Sunday night, Fraser Hardy,  leader of the LinkNZ network and a great friend of our church, will be speaking at Edge. He will be asking this question: ‘what’s in a name?’

    CAMERON
    Usage: Scottish, English
Pronounced: KAM-rən (English), KAM-ə-rən (English) [key]
From a Scottish surname meaning “crooked nose” from Gaelic cam “crooked” and sròn “nose”.

Yeah… ripped off eh. The fact that I broke my nose severely in an accident when I was 9 which has elft it lopsided only adds to the burn. LOL
