There’s something just a little bit magic when the ladies get together, tell stories, share a few laughs and crowd so tightly around the chocolate fountain that you’d think it was a scrum (a well executed one, unlike those recently seen in some test matches). I couldn’t fight my way to the chocolate fountain, but I’m a savoury girl anyway, so I gorged on amazing bits of deliciousness on bread instead. I digress – back to the event.
Girl’s Night Out is a World Vision initiative and Edge Kingsland was the host on Friday night. There were a few reasons I enjoyed it being at our place. One was because it was great to see Edge filled with smiling and excited strangers. Another reason is that Carly, who runs Girls Night Out is one of our own – and one in a long line of Edge people to work for World Vision. It’s great to witness people working in their element and she is a very classy event manager. Go Carly!
I went to the event to support World Vision (I’m one of that long line of Edge people who has worked there) and be part of something we were hosting. I thought I was doing the good thing, but the night really turned that idea on its head. I arrived home with a goodie bag full of treats and full of savouries. Even better than treats the great women on stage.
I’ve always loved the artist known as juliagrace and have seen her through many hairstyles and fashions over years. There are lots of things that haven’t changed though – she’s talented of course, but so are lots of people. What makes her stand out is her wisdom and commonsense mixed with humour and faith. She’s always a treat to hear and her photos and stories about Cambodia took me back to my first ever overseas trip in 1997. There were also stories that induced shrieks of laughter… but I think that there are some things that should just stay between the girls.
Allison Mooney is a brilliant speaker on ‘pressing the right buttons’. She’s all about understanding what makes us tick, understanding others and being able to ‘fill each other’s tanks.’ She’s another wise woman. I want to know and understand more about these concepts. They make a lot of sense.
For one who isn’t really into ‘women’s events’ this hit just the right note.
